What is SmartALEC?

SmartALEC is a mobile printing solution that allows library patrons and guests to print from smartphones, tablets, or laptops. Upload files, email attachments, or print web pages—from home or on the go!

How do I use SmartALEC to print?

Using SmartALEC is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Access: Visit your library’s Mobile Print Page or use the SmartALEC app. Log in with a library card, or guest account based on your library's guest policy. No need to select a printer—just go to your library and print!
  2. Delivery Options:
    • Email attachments
    • File upload (supports multiple files)
    • Web page / URL printing
    • Google Drive access
  3. Print: Visit any of your library’s Print Release Stations to release and pay for your documents.

Where can I print?

Print jobs are released at your library’s Print Release Station. No printer selection is needed in advance.

What types of files can I upload?

SmartALEC supports common document formats like Word, PDF, Excel, and images. You can upload multiple files at once. Supported file extensions: pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, csv, txt, html, rtf, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, and heic.

Can I print directly from a website?

Yes! Just paste the URL of the web page into the SmartALEC portal to print it.

How do I print email attachments?

  1. Log in to your personal email account.
  2. Send or forward an email with your document attachments to: SmartAlec@SmartAlecPrint.com
  3. No subject or message needed—only attachments will be printed.
  4. Click “Refresh” in the SmartALEC portal to see your files.

Note: You must register your email with your library’s SmartALEC service before using this feature.

Can I print from Google Drive?

Yes! Choose Google Drive in the SmartALEC portal to browse and print your documents directly.

Is SmartALEC free to use?

Printing fees may apply depending on your library’s policy. Check with your library for current pricing and payment options.
